Emeritus Professor Tom McMahon recently retired after 45 year as a teacher, researcher and consultant in hydrology and water resources and now holds an honorary position in the University of Melbourne. Prior to retirement he was Professor of Environmental Hydrology, Head of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Co-director of the Centre for Environmental Applied Hydrology and Deputy Director of the CRC for Catchment Hydrology. Tom holds a B.E. from the University of Melbourne, a PhD from the University of New South Wales and a Dip. Ed. from Monash University. In 1981 he was awarded a D. Eng. from the University of Melbourne. Tom is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering and is internationally known for his earlier books on reservoir-storage and yield analysis and, more recently, for co-authoring a textbook on stream hydrology for ecologists.

Professor McMahon has authored 9 books in hydrology and more than 470 papers and reports in hydrology and water resources.
